Hamid Karimi is an executive professional in energy efficiency and sustainable construction and currently the Program Manager for deep energy retrofits with FortisBC. A number of initiatives have been developed under Hamid’s leadership in FortisBC, including the first and a unique deep energy retrofit pilot program, aiming to achieve up to 80% reduction in energy use and GHG emission of existing buildings. The pilot program includes four Multi Unit Residential Buildings (MURB) covering both concrete and wood structure high-rise and mid-rise as well as 20 single family homes, participating from different climate zones of British Columbia. Hamid has also supported the development of a separate pilot for an Artificial Intelligence based technology to provide on spot home energy assessment report in a regional district of BC interior with over 38,000 residential homes. This platform produces similar result in form of NRCan compliant energy rating system while providing the homeowners with additional support and resources to take on their own deep energy retrofit project.
Previous to this, Hamid has worked with number of high-profile initiatives in construction and renewable energy in North America and the international building industry. Hamid is a mechanical engineer and holds a Master of Engineering Leadership in high-performance buildings from University of British Columbia.
