Chris Habets was in the first ten graduating students of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering program from Carleton University, a program that was launched in 2008 to train engineers to be focused on energy sustainability. Chris is also a Certified Energy Auditor through the Association of Energy Engineers, has his Professional Engineering license and has the LEED AP BD+C designation. Chris started his career at Nortec (now Condair), spending 8 years helping customers design and retrofit energy efficient humidification systems. Chris then started his own boutique engineering firm, Good Habets Inc, focusing on energy efficiency and GHG reduction in Eastern Ontario in small multifamily and residential buildings. Good Habets Inc. hired multiple new engineering graduates into the field of energy efficiency. Now at J.L. Richards (JLR), Chris has joined the expanding Energy Systems division – a team that focuses on all things Energy within the JLR sphere. This can include energy modeling, solar design, wastewater energy recovery, HVAC consulting and more. Chris prefers to focus his time on the mechanical side of the energy world, training new staff and working with mechanical contractors to complete energy efficiency retrofits. Chris has presented energy conservation plans to organizations across North America and has designed or modelled systems that reduce energy use by hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
