Rick has been in the design and construction industry for over 35 years. He has worked specifically in the construction industry with Bird Construction for over 18 years in Halifax. Prior to this, he worked for 15 years as a senior designer for Architectural firms in the UK and Canada.
Since joining Bird in 2005, Rick's role within the organization has expanded from that of design coordinator to Business Development and Design Manager. He is currently Bird’s Director of Design and Key Accounts.
Rick is primarily responsible for project pursuit, client development, project logistics, value engineering, LEED/Sustainability as well as building envelope, alternate compliance and building science analysis. As head of the company's in house design-build team, Rick works on competitive design-build tenders as well as sole sourced and unsolicited pursuits. As a registered LEED AP, Rick manages the sustainable initiatives involved in many of the company's pursuits.
Rick brings a strong understanding of the challenges facing clients when it comes to balancing design quality with affordability in an ever competitive environment.
