North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative
Description
The North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative is made up of 16 gas and dual fuel utilities and energy efficiency program administrators in North America who recognize gas heat pump technologies play an important role in decarbonization. Gas heat pumps are a highly energy-efficient technology used for space heating and cooling, ventilation, and water heating in commercial and residential sectors. While products for the commercial sector have been in the market for more than ten years, the residential product is only now available in North America in early 2024. The group’s current focus is on ramping up the adoption of GHPs because they can dramatically improve the efficiency of gas heating equipment from historical efficiencies of less than 100% to efficiencies that are well above 100%. The scale of the Collaborative is also significant with combined territories of members representing more than one-third of all Canadian and U.S. households that use natural gas.
