Shauna Sylvester is a Senior Fellow of the Definity Foundation, and the Founder and Lead Convenor for Urban Climate Leadership (UCL), a project of MakeWay. She brings over 35 years of experience in leading groups through complex problem solving, facilitating many initiatives with local governments on housing, energy and sustainable financing. Currently, through UCL, she is supporting over 240 private, public and community leaders in a project entitled: Keep It Cool: Transitioning 5,000 Low-Rise MURBs in BC to Energy Efficiency Heat Pumps and supporting a Canadian initiative to secure a nation-building project focused on retrofits. Shauna has worked to support sustainability in the green built environment since the mid-1980s. She is the former Executive Director of the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, the ED of Urban Sustainability Directors Network – US and Canada, and Co-Founder of five local and international dialogue initiatives: the SFU Public Square, Renewable Cities, Carbon Talks, Moving in a Livable Region and IMPACS – the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society. Shauna is an active volunteer and has served on the boards of Vancity, Vancity Capital, the BC Assessment Authority, MEC (when it was a vibrant co-op), Tamarack Institute and Resilient Point Roberts.
