Andy Cockburn is a Red Seal Carpenter and Certified Passive House Consultant with experience in custom home building, panelized construction, traditional timber framing, stair construction, architectural drafting, 3D modelling and historic restoration. Andy is also a seasoned teacher of trades and building science, with over 16 years teaching with the Construction Carpentry Advanced Housing program at Algonquin College.
As part of his work with NAIMA Canada, Andy creates learning content for contractors and renovators, as well as serving on boards and program advisories at educational and industry organizations across Canada. This includes work in material standards development with United Laboratories Canada (ULC) and the ULC 700 Committee on Thermal Performance and Energy Use in the Built Environment. He is also a Board member of the Home Performance Stakeholder Council / Contractor Network in British Columbia and is a member of their Insulation Sector Council
Andy is a long-time member of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, serving on the Board of Directors and as past president of his regional local, the Lanark and Leeds HBA. Andy volunteers time in his hometown to local climate change mitigation initiatives and energy retrofit concierge programs. He’s a self-professed nerd who enjoys working on complicated spreadsheets, playing guitar, and maintaining an on-again, off-again relationship with facial hair.
