Darla has over 20 years experience working at the interface between people, energy, and buildings. Her interdisciplinary approach began with her undergraduate degree a blend of natural science and environmental economics. The first part of her career was spent in the K-12 sector supporting school districts to save energy and operational expenses through behaviour change and policy adoption. She then joined SES Consulting, an energy efficiency engineering firm specializing in mechanical and controls retrofits. In her role as Director of Sustainability she was able to blend change management, behavioural science, and technical knowledge, to help clients address structural barriers to low-carbon retrofits while supporting individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices. In 2022 Darla joined the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre as their Retrofit Program Manager, leading the development of the BC Retrofit Accelerator. Climate action is her passion and it extends to her volunteer work as a Board Member of Urban Repurpose, a non-profit dedicated to harvesting resources that would otherwise end up in landfill and helping people to reuse, renew, and repurpose goods and materials.
